Can You Balance Work and Play?

My inner workaholic is rising to the surface after a 7 year hiatus and I’m not so sure I’m thrilled with the results. Yes, I am getting a TON of stuff done, but at the expense of pretty much everything else.

For example, I moved last weekend. Two days of hauling, lifting, packing, sorting, (cursing when I banged up my toe on an errant suitcase) and camping out in a house with wifi and water while waiting for furniture to arrive. Six Easy Tips on Keeping the Fire Lit In Your Relationship

On a recent blog post, a community member left an interesting football analogy to go with his completely astute comment that it’s actually when you WIN the person you love, that you need to step up your game.

Honestly, with all that we have going on in life… careers, relationships, home maintenance, raising kids, taking care of family, keeping up with friends, staying in shape, having some fun, basic errands and time eating activities, paying bills, etc… it’s hard to then turn our attention to our relationship and think, “How can I step UP my game to show this person love?” After all… we are busy stepping up our game everywhere else just to stay IN the game.

But I’ll take a cue from some of the more happily married folks I’ve met. Relationships take work and the really important ones (the ones you don’t want to live without) are worth the investment.

Romance is Dead! Or Not?

A group of us went to the John Mayer concert the other night. Now, before you judge, he did thank us all for defending him to all the people who call him D*bag and resolutely protecting his honor that he’s not all that bad. And then launched into one of his more famous D*Bag tunes. I’ll admit… it did make me laugh. And I like his music.

On the way home, we were talking about how hard it is to find current music that sends the “romance” message. We literally puzzled over who our modern troubadours are and couldn’t think of anyone really hitting the scene with a truly romantic song.
